Hundreds of energy company employees to run or volunteer
BERLIN, Conn. (October 15, 2024) – Covering many miles on the road is nothing new for Josh Prior, but this time he’ll be doing it with his running shoes in the Eversource Hartford Marathon. As a professional motocross rider for many years traveling across North America – facing 26.2 miles on his feet is a challenge Prior is eager to conquer. The Windham resident took on the half marathon last year with little to no training and had a great experience but this year – he wants to up the ante.
“For me this is a bucket list item, I love a good physical challenge – I’m constantly searching for something to challenge my mind and body outside of work,” said Prior. “I ran the half marathon last year and recently rode my motorcycle offroad – 3000 miles – from Mexico to Banff in Alberta, Canada, which was great! This is the next goal I set for myself, and I can’t wait! It’s exciting when you set a goal for yourself and then complete it.”
While work as an Eversource Electric Field Operations Supervisor keeps Prior busy every day, he is also managing a consistent training schedule with his running partner and friend, running three times a week – 15 to 20 miles per week. With his family, friends, girlfriend and the crowd along the route cheering him on, the race is not about winning or hitting a personal record for Prior - his only goal is to cross the finish line.
Prior will join thousands of other runners from across the country and beyond for the Eversource Hartford Marathon this weekend – the 11th year Eversource has been the title sponsor. Almost 400 employees and their families will be running or volunteering that day – handing out water on the course, awarding medals at the finish line, and cheering on the runners along the way. The races kick off on Capitol Avenue at the front lawn of the CT State Capitol Building in Hartford on Saturday, October 19th at 8 a.m.
